About Us
The Wormitologist provides nutrient dense worm castings for your houseplants from a hefty family of 1000+ red wiggler composting worms. Worm castings are full of nitrogen, phosphorus, & potassium- perfect for giving your plant's soil a little extra love when the sun refuses to come out here in rainy SEAK. Each sleeve of worm castings is enough to quench the nutrient needs of 3-4 small plants, 2 medium sized plants, or 1 large plant.
Practices
The owner hosts these composting worms in a fluffy bed of newspaper scraps inside several sliding Sterilite bins in her laundry room. It's cool, dark, and moist- they are thriving. They live a lavish life feasting on leftover fruit & veggie scraps fed to them on a weekly basis. It keeps the owner's food scraps out of the landfill, these guys get to eat well, and they provide her with composting gold. It's a win-win-win.

She harvests the vermicompost (aka worm poop) once every few months. This involves scooping out the worms, placing them in fresh bedding with new food scraps, and sifting the worm castings apart from the bedding. If you find a few newspaper shreds in your product, all is well, it's hard to get every little bit of bedding out!

The owner is a former New York City Compost Project educator who worked on an urban farm and mid-scale composting site complete with a flock of 70 chickens on an island just off the southern tip of Manhattan. She specialized in teaching courses on backyard composting devices, and has always had a soft spot for vermicomposting. She loves being a worm mom (& grandma, & probably great-great grandma at this point!).
